Stoen Operator manages the power grid for Warsaw and its neighboring municipalities, serving hundreds of thousands of customers and overseeing thousands of network assets. For years, data about this infrastructure was kept in two separate systems: Smallworld GIS and SAP S/4HANA. Every time a change occurred in the field, it had to be updated in both places. Separately. Manually. With zero automatic consistency checks.

The integration was no easy task, largely due to the very nature of Smallworld GIS, an object-oriented system that lacks a built-in mechanism for exchanging data with external software. Standard, off-the-shelf connectors simply couldn’t solve the problem.

Globema stepped in and built a custom integration using FME and an intermediate PostgreSQL database. Today, the solution runs seamlessly in the background, automatically syncing the data every single night.
