FME-2023.0

Have you tried out the newest FME Platform version, 2023.0? This update release by Safe Software has been meticulously crafted to supercharge IT efficiency and revolutionize team collaboration. Proclaimed as the most remarkable FME update to date by its creators, the FME 2023.0 release coincides with a comprehensive rebranding of both the FME Platform and its creator, Safe Software.

You can read more about this in our article, FME: a subscription model, simplified licensing, and friendlier design. Safe Software announces rebranding.

Now, let’s dive in and see what’s new in the FME Platform 2023.0!

Empowering IT efficiency

The FME Platform 2023.0 introduces a spectrum of transformative enhancements tailored for IT security, streamlined workflows, and a modernized hybrid and multi-cloud infrastructure. Key improvements include:

Deployments Parameters: simplify the process of deploying workflows across multiple FME Flow environments

When migrating workflow between different environments, e.g., between the development, test, and production stages, you no longer need to adjust each parameter in environments or automation workflows. Besides private and published parameters, Safe Software has now introduced deployment parameters. Configuration in each environment is automatically picked up by referencing deployment parameters in workspaces and automations. This ensures smooth workflow transitions.

Enhanced API services

New API services offered by Safe Software bring increased control, flexibility, and security to your automations. The built-in authentication support and visibility into API request information allow you to orchestrate even more powerful automations.

Faster Command Line Interface (CLI) deployment

You can now automate FME workflow deployments with Command Line Interface (CLI) to deliver fast and reliable data integration pipelines.

Elevating team collaboration and productivity

One of the main objectives for the newest FME update is to amplify collaboration within project teams. FME 2023.0 brings centralized access to documentation and tools, which users can adjust to their needs and share. Let’s take a look at some of the most noteworthy changes:

Enhanced workspace comparison

Building on the workspace comparison functionality introduced in FME 2022.0, the 2023.0 iteration refines this feature based on user feedback. Teamwork and communication are seamlessly facilitated through prompt workspace updates.

Shareable BIM models

Revit Writer is a favored choice among FME users. It allows you to integrate GIS data into Revit and create a Slim BIM model, primed for sharing within your team.

Revolutionizing connector creation

Transformer Designer is currently in the beta version and enables FME Package developers to construct a graphical user interface for Python-developed FME Transformers.

Improved transformer efficiency and quicker access to information

In this update, Safe Software focused on improving the speed of processing large volumes of data. Bulk mode is particularly helpful here. For example, PointOnAreaOverlater can process 16 million points in 21 seconds! What are some other efficiency improvements in FME 2023.0?

Optimized data visualization

Safe Software optimized performance for 2D rendering ensuring seamless processing of feature-rich data. Quicker data inspection and preview further elevate efficiency.

New possibilities for working with data through Databricks reader and writer

Seamlessly access, retrieve, and write data from and to Databricks natively within FME through the Databricks Reader & Writer.

Access to larger data volumes

With new Readers and Writers, FME expands possibilities to work with different platforms, e.g.:

ArcGIS Server Feature Service Writer, Microsoft Azure Synapse SQL Reader & Writer, ND JSON & GeoJSON Reader & Writer, Airtable Reader & Writer, and Precisely MRR Writer. This list is constantly growing.
