Head Office of Geodesy and Cartography (GUGiK) is one of Globema’s key customers and an FME user since 2014. Recently, GUGiK signed a 2-year subscription deal through Globema. This subscription allows GUGiK to use an unlimited number of FME licenses during a 2-year period. This type of contract is the first one to be signed with Safe Software (FME developers) through Globema in Central and Eastern Europe.
Head Office of Geodesy and Cartography executes government policies regarding land surveying and geodetic networks and it also installs and manages geographic information system in cooperation with other departments. GUGiK’s other important responsibility is providing access to up-to-date geodesy and cartography data and co-creation of spatial information infrastructure based on the newest technologies and solutions.
Data integration platform at GUGiK
GUGiK is an FME and FME Server user since 2014. The Office also actively participates in events of the FME community. The Office’s representatives shared their knowledge during the FME World Tour in 2018 and 2019. GUGiK’s presentations on generating and controlling 3D building models and using FME for automated generalization and cartographic editing of topographic maps were praised by the audiences of both events.
Because of the growing project needs, the Office decided to sign a subscription deal that gives it access to an unlimited number of licenses. FME licenses are currently used mostly by Geodesy, Cartography, and GIS Department in processes such as photogrammetric data quality control, BDOT10k data quality control, data processing, and data production. Thanks to the many possibilities of automation, such as scripts, transformers, parametrization, task planning and queuing, GUGiK could eliminate iterative tasks and many processes are performed faster. Additionally, FME manages databases and supports many spatial data formats. With all this, it has a wide range of applications at GUGiK.
Why the subscription model?
Subscription model of licensing allows budget units of governmental offices, as well as commercial companies, to manage and plan their budget in an easier way having two or three next years in mind. Changing demand for data processing and integration services in the everyday operations or planning long projects is easier when you can use additional licenses at any given moment.
