GeoGrid 1.7: discover bulk data updates, new map options, and workflow Improvements

GeoGrid 1.7 Globema

At the end of last year, we informed you about innovations in the GeoGrid platform, including the possibility of using Google Maps Platform and FME. In the latest edition of GeoGrid, we’ve introduced further improvements in this area and a number of other changes that will make using applications built based on our proprietary GIS platform even more intuitive, convenient, and secure. Let’s delve into the details!

Smarter Use of Google Street View for Better Context

In a previous article, we mentioned the possibility of using Google Street View. This feature lets you see selected objects – infrastructure elements, power poles, electrical boxes, lampposts, etc. – directly in the GeoGrid window.

In version 1.7, we’ve improved how information about objects is displayed and added the date the street photo on Google was taken. With the latter change, you can easily assess whether the view of the object in the image represents its current state. If the photo is several years old, you can safely assume that the surroundings have changed since the moment the picture was taken, and it’s worth verifying the current situation.

Broader Choice of Map Providers to Match Your Needs and Budget

Since GeoGrid version 1.6, Google Maps has been the system’s default baselayer map. We’ve expanded the range of available map options to include Open Street Maps, Map Tiler, and Arc GIS.

Improved Search Capabilities for Addresses and Points of Interest

To accelerate your workflow, we’ve introduced several improvements to GeoGrid, including enhanced support for address and POI searches.

Imagine you are looking for a suitable location for a new service point in the Białystok area. You want to search for facilities that are already in the area and research your potential competition. If you use Google Maps as your default map, GeoGrid will first search for locations in the currently displayed area of the map – in this case, in the vicinity of Białystok. This location display preference allows you to find objects of interest faster and streamline your work.

Bulk Data Updates for Faster, More Efficient Workflows

Now, in GeoGrid, you can perform a bulk update of data on existing layers (add or delete them) by importing them as xlsx and csv files. This makes work much easier and faster.

Enhanced Data Control and Smoother Collaboration with External Partners

If your organization collaborates with specialists from other companies, this new GeoGrid feature is sure to interest you. We’ve added the ability to control which layers on the map you can download data from.

Let’s say you work in the telecommunications industry and are cooperating with a contractor on a network expansion. You want to share information about your network with them, but you also want to make sure that this data is not downloaded and then shared with unauthorized third parties without your knowledge and consent. Now, you can turn off the possibility of downloading data for selected (or all) layers in GeoGrid.

Greater security with automatic logout

At the request of our users, we have improved the system’s security. Now, the user is automatically logged out after a certain time of inactivity. This prevents unwanted access to the system by unsolicited third parties.
