About the Company: GO plc
GO boasts a bright and successful 50-year legacy of doing what it does best – connecting Malta, its people, and businesses to what matters most to them. Its purpose is to drive a digital Malta, where no one is left behind. As the incumbent player in the Maltese telecommunications market, GO has long established itself as a strong and integral part of the Maltese community and contributed significantly to the success of the Maltese economy. It has taken a leading role as one of the largest investors in Malta’s digital infrastructure, which is critical for country’s digital transformation. Of late, it is moving beyond telecoms and moving into the Energy and electronics markets.
GO is a publicly listed company on the Malta Stock Exchange and parent company of the GO Group. GO was the first quad play telecom provider in Malta, offering mobile, fixed line, high-speed broadband, and TV services to more than 500,000 customers. GO also provides unrivalled services to the Maltese business community, including cloud services, roaming services, data networking solutions, business IP services, and managed services.
GO’s growth and success were built on a focused strategy aimed at delivering a world-class service in terms of infrastructure and customer experience. Through substantial investment in fibre-powered infrastructure and international connectivity, an extensive network of retail outlets across the Maltese Islands, and dedicated customer call centre and B2B support, GO cemented its position as a provider of world-class communications services.
The Group has a controlling interest in BMIT Technologies p.l.c., Cablenet Communications Systems p.l.c., Connectedcare Limited, Sens Innovation Group Limited, Cybersift Holdings Limited, AQS Med Ltd. and most recently Klikk.
Challenges
Smallworld Physical Network Inventory is a comprehensive and powerful solution, critical for supplying fiber route data to GO plc’s service fulfillment systems. However, due to limited familiarity with the solution, the company used only a narrow subset of the platform’s capabilities.
Consequently, GO faced challenges in taking full advantage of its network management system. This negatively affected its capacity to manage and expand the network efficiently, particularly considering growing industry demands for improved operational efficiency.
Solution
Globema stepped in as a trusted partner and helped GO plc take advantage of the full potential of Smallworld Physical Network Inventory, and proposed additional extensions to the system.
- It developed tailored export tools to extract and share PNI data across GO plc’s ecosystem.
- Implemented several valuable enhancements, such as the DWG export tool and network design validation features, to ensure the company’s network design adheres to best industry practices.
- Implemented the Optical Network Atlas add-on, which addressed the company’s need for a clear and reliable schematic view of the network.
Impact
The system, along with the add-ons provided by Globema, is used by planners, linemen, jointers, field technicians, and installers who rely on accurate network data to roll out, maintain, and fulfill telecom services. The validation and reporting tools developed by Globema helped the company significantly improve data quality and achieve nearly 100% data accuracy.
Accurate and clean network data has, in turn:
Boosted the company’s ability to identify fiber paths for service fulfillment – a process that previously proved to be time-consuming and prone to errors.
Increased efficiency of issue resolution and deployment of new services, directly improving the company’s responsiveness and customer satisfaction.
Additionally, the Optical Network Atlas solution provided by Globema addressed GO plc’s need for a clear and reliable schematic view of the network. Precise geospatial visibility of their underground network helps the company guide contractors during excavation work, minimizing the risk of cable damage and costly disruptions.
Client’s Voice: Go plc on Their Partnership with Globema
Today we have 100% coverage of our True Fiber network, making Malta one of the first countries in the EU to achieve such a milestone. This network was deployed in record time and under budget, something that would not have been possible without the support of efficient and accurate tools that are conducive to good planning and recording.
We can confidently say that this success is partly due to the well-supported physical network inventory.
