Globema implemented Smallworld in Polish Railways

By July 15, 2013December 23rd, 2014Smallworld, Telecommunications

Globema has delivered an inventory system, based on Smallworld Network Inventory, for the implementation of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) on the railway segment Legnica-Wroclaw-Opole. Globema implemented this solution in cooperation with Alcatel-Lucent.

Globema was responsible for the delivery and implementation of the Network Inventory System covering the railway telecommunications infrastructure under the EU project “Modernisation of E30 railway line, Phase II. The implementation of ERTMS / ETCS ERTMS / GSM-R in Poland.” The project is run by PKP PLK SA, which is part of PKP Group – the largest railway operator in Poland.

ERTMS – the future of European railways

The ERTMS system is designed to establish an integrated and user-friendly railway system. In particular, it will:

  • improve the safety of the trains,
  • increase the capacity of the railway lines,
  • increase the maximum speed of trains (up to 200 km/h),
  • reduce the risk of accidents,
  • enable adaptation to international standards,
  • improve the quality of services.

The idea of ERTMS was adopted in Poland back in 2007 by the Council of Ministers as a project for modernization of the local railway system, and it means an implementation of EU policy in this area. ERTMS will eventually cover the major railway trails in Poland.

Smallworld Network Inventory

GE’s Smallworld Network Inventory [SNI] is a highly scalable portfolio of products that provide end-to-end view of multi-vendor, multi-technology networks. Globema’s solutions based on SNI platform cover physical, logical and resource facing services. Smallworld Network Inventory supports network design and build in the same environment as network documentation.
