Globema opens a new Software Development Center in Lodz

Due to intensive growth and engagement in R&D activities, Globema has just opened a new Software Development Center [SDC] in the city of Lodz. This is the second R&D unit in the organization’s structure (the first one – located in Warsaw – was opened in 2010). During last 3 years Globema has invested over 5M EUR in R&D activities.

The SDC in Lodz will focus on development of innovative Smart Grid software solutions. The software laboratory will also develop industry-specific, geospatial resources management systems for various network operators and companies conducting field works. These systems will be based on Smallworld and open-source geospatial platforms. The SDC will also support the implementation of a number of Google Earth & Maps solutions, which are aimed at virtually any industry that uses maps and geospatial data (e.g. banking, real estate, transportation). The SDC has already initiated an R&D collaboration with local universities in Lodz.

Globema’s R&D activities

Globema, for several years now, puts a lot of investment and effort into R&D projects. We cooperate with the largest local universities and research facilities as well as run industrial research with existing and potential customers. In 2012 Globema was officially registered as a Research and Development Organization by the Minister of the Economy of Poland.

Globema has a proven record in performing technical research projects aimed to develop and implement new or significantly improved software products and services. Some of our R&D projects have been partially financed by grants from the National Center for Research and Development or by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund.

Good examples of Globema’s recent R&D developments are:

  • 4RES – The project goal was to develop an IT solution for renewable energy producers and operators. 4RES helps to forecast the demand, to calculate energy generation capabilities and to connect renewable energy sources (wind farms, hydro- and solar power generation) to an energy grid.
  • ELGrid – The aim of the project was to develop an expert system to support development, planning and management of an electric grid including distributed generation, energy storages and controllable receivers. ELGrid is a decision support system that optimizes electric power network operation and investment planning. The solution also forecasts the electricity demand and energy production from renewable energy sources (RES), as well as helps to optimize the strategy for energy storage.
