Conference 2008

The 10th Anniversary International Conference of Globema was held on 28-30 May in Krakow. The leading theme of this year was: “Solutions for distribution and transmission network utilities and telecommunication  operators on competitive markets”.

 

The Globema Conference, like in previous years, was a place of meetings and an opportunity to exchange experiences between suppliers and users of GIS based solutions in such areas as energy and gas distribution,
district heating, telecommunication and many more.

 

The Conference took place just after 10 years of activity of Globema Company and also in the year of 20th anniversary of creating the Smallworld platform. These anniversaries gave an excellent opportunity to review and evaluate the development of Smallworld and Globema business as well as to celebrate the achievements together with Globema’s customers and partners. As in previous years, GE Energy Smallworld was the primary partner of the Conference. The list of other Conference partners and sponsors include: Amdocs, Infovide-Matrix, Monetical, Panasonic, Emapa, Microsoft, CAS, Realworld Systems, Salamon Consulting and Proximus.

 

The Conference was attended by over 180 people, with about 40 guests who came from the USA, South Africa,
Denmark, Germany, Spain, Great Britain, Romania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and from others countries. Over 30 lectures were presented on 5 plenary sessions and during two parallel tracks dedicated to solutions for
utilities and communications. The presentations were delivered by users of Smallworld solutions, Globema staff 
members, partner companies and and by independent consultants. The main themes were:

 

• Development directions of applications and new products
• Experience drawn from implementation and integration of systems
• Smallworld and Cramer case studies
• Data capture and data maintenance in network inventory systems
• Support trade conceptions after deliverance of market and inauguration of Unbundling

 

Special guests of the event and keynote speakers were: Dick Newell, co-founder and developer of Smallworld and Bob Samborski, Executive Director of Geospatial Information & Technology Association (GITA), the largest
organization of GIS users, suppliers and specialists. 

 

The conference also featured an exhibion where eight companies, including Globema, GE Energy Smallworld, Amdocs, Panasonic and Realworld, demonstrated their new products and solutions.

 

At the opening session of the event, Mr. Marek Gondzio, the company president, received a prize from the hands of GE Energy representative, Mr. Keith Redfearn (EMEA & India Regional General Manager, GE Energy
T&D) in acknowledgement of 10 years of Globema activities in the implementation of Smallworld solutions on CEE
markets.

 


The conference was also an opportunity for Globema to thank our customers and partners
for their long-standing cooperation with Globema and for their contribution to the implementation of GIS based 
solutions on Smallworld platform. Special thanks and anniversary tokens of appreciation were presented to the

Globema also thanked Mr. Dick Newell for co-founding and developing Smallworld and for encouraging us to build a successful business based on Smallworld software. According to the conference participants, the most interesting lectures concerned integration of GIS applications with other systems, the idea of complex solution for distribution network operators and support for business processes in utilities and telecoms. Attention was also focused on data capture, data conversion and data maintenance issues.
